On the Rocks teaches customized outdoor rock climbing courses covering the most current, safe and efficient rock climbing techniques available. All of our courses are taught by PCGI Certified Guides, follow UIAA standards and will cater to clients individual learning styles and skill sets.  It gives us great satisfaction to share our knowledge and experience, to help you push your climbing limits and gain the freedom to safely enjoy rock climbing in Ontario and abroad. Our rock climbing courses are extensive and jam packed with as much knowledge as your brain can handle, so be prepared to learn! We always have a low guide to climber ratio, to make the most of our time together so you can reach your rock climbing goals. We don't just enjoy climbing, we enjoy teaching it!  Come learn from the rock masters.

Introduction to Outdoor Climbing
First time on the rocks? This is the perfect course to safely enter the world of rock climbing! We offer custom introductory rock climbing lessons that are perfect for any skill level. Learn basic climbing knots, belaying, climbing technique and even rappelling!.

Family Rock Transition Course 
This 2 day course is perfect for families looking to gain the necessary skills to safely climb outdoors. You can choose from our Anchor Building & Rappelling Course or our Sport Leading Course, and combine it with a guided day of rock climbing, technique tips and building on skills learned. This course is completely customized to meet your goals and your family.

Anchor Building Course

This 1 day course will teach you safe and efficient anchor building techniques so you can get out climbing on your own. An On the Rocks anchor building course will prepare you with the necessary skills to safely build your own climbing anchors for top roping outdoors, in a variety of different scenarios. Learn about climbing knots, anchor building principles, tethering, anchor building gear, rappelling and other important outdoor transitioning tips.

Outdoor Sport Leading & Rappelling
This 1 day course will prepare you with the necessary skills to safely lead climb outdoors. Lead climbing is the natural progression of rock climbing and even more fun! Leading outdoors comes with other considerations that aren't present in the climbing gym. This course is applicable to first time leaders and climbing gym leaders that are interested in making the transition into the outdoor realm.

3:1 Guide to Client Ratio

Must have basic knowledge of rock climbing and be comfortable climbing 5.7 on top rope.

Lions Head Skills Course- Advanced Anchors and Top Managed Belays
Interested in climbing at top accessed area's like Lion's Head? When climbing at a top accessed cliff, it is crucial to know how to top belay & lower, rappel, ascend, extend a masterpoint & many other useful tricks. This 1 day course is open to climbers with anchor building experience who are looking to advance their skills; it is also a great transition into trad or multi-pitch. Gym to Rock Transition Course
(Anchor Building Fundamentals + Sport Leading or Outdoor Technique)
This 2 day course takes into consideration the skills already learned in the climbing gym environment to make a smooth and safe transition from indoor gym climber to outdoor rock crusher! This course can be customized to any level of climber and will prepare you with the skills necessary to safely climb outdoors on your own.

This course is combines Anchor Building, Sport Leading and/or Outdoor Technique, depending on clients ability, knowledge and goals.

TRADitional Climbing Course
This 2 day course is perfect for those interested in learning the art of traditional climbing. This course will help you safely and confidently begin your career as a trad climber and give you the skills necessary to safely climb traditional routes anywhere in the world.
Learn how to place and remove different types gear. Learn how to build safe and efficient trad anchors in a variety of settings. Learn how to belay from the top of a climb and rappel down, and much more. Our instructors are avid trad climbers that love to share their years of climbing experience with others keen to learn.

Multi-Pitch Techniques

There is nothing more amazing then the feeling of moving upwards over stone all day long. Experience the exposure s and gain the freedom to climb multi-pitch routes all over the world with a custom On the Rocks trad or sport multi-pitch course. This course is 1-2 days in length depending on clients experience and skill level. On the Rocks is insured to teach/guide multi-pitch courses and adventures all over North America, so you can learn safe and efficient multi-pitch techniques here in Ontario or abroad.

Rock Rescue Course
This 1 day course is perfect for experienced climbers who would like to advance their skills. Although climbing is safe, a situation in which a rescue is needed can happen. This course will prepare you with the knowledge necessary to get yourself out of a variety of rescue scenarios. Learn how to ascend a rope and haul a climber. Learn how to escape a belay. Learn a variety of rappels.These skills will give you great confidence in sport, traditional or multi pitch climbing.

Must have anchor setting knowledge or have completed the On the Rocks anchor building course.

2 People: $220/person

Customized private and group technique courses are also available for any level of climber. Come on your own or with a group of friends to learn new climbing techniques from a professional guide and climber, in a comfortable and encouraging environment.
