Rattlesnake Round-up: Second Round!


Our second weekend of climbing clinics features some exciting new clinics, some popular courses, and great opportunities to get out climbing!

This round is supported by Ontario Resoles Gear Co. and participants will receive discount vouchers for the ORGearCo shop!


Friday, June 21

9am Anchor Building Refresher 4hrs ($100/person)

Brush up your anchor building skills, and build confidence setting up top-ropes. Climbers should have previous anchor building experience.

1pm Half-day Intro to Rappelling 4hrs ($125/person)

This technical introduction is all about learning to rappel, covering the technique, risk management and troubleshooting. A great, comprehensive introduction.

5pm Self-Rescue: Escape the Belay 4hrs ($125/person)

Learn several useful self-rescue knots and techniques for problem-solving while belaying should either climber or belayer get into trouble.


Saturday, June 22

9am Try Climbing 3hrs ($75/person)

Explore the adventure of rock climbing and scale a steep cliff face. No previous experience required, all climbing gear provided.

9am Crack Climbing Clinic 4hrs ($150/person)

Learn a variety of crack climbing techniques, and discuss equipment and strategy. Climbing will be on top-rope, but previous outdoor experience is helpful.

1pm Falling Clinic 4hrs ($150/person)

This clinic focuses on taking and catching lead falls, practicing skills in a supportive environment, and discussing risk management. Not for new leaders.

5pm Top-rope Meet-up 4hrs ($80/person)

A chance for climbers with previous outdoor climbing experience to meet-up, practice skills and climb with supervision from an On The Rocks guide.


Sunday, June 23

9am Try Climbing 3hrs ($75/person)

Explore the adventure of rock climbing and scale a steep cliff face. No previous experience required, all climbing gear provided.

9am Top Belay and Hauling Clinic 4hrs ($150/person)

Learn to belay from above, including lowering and hauling techniques, key skills for top-accessed sites, multi-pitch and self-rescue. Climbers should have outdoor experience and know how to belay and build anchors.

1pm Sport Anchor Cleaning Clinic 4hrs ($125/person)

Learn or review cleaning sport anchors several ways, and discuss common challenges when cleaning sport routes. Climbers should have lead experience.

1pm Self-Rescue: Improvised Ascension 4hrs ($150/person)

Learn to ascend a rope using belay devices and friction hitches, and discuss when and how ascension should be used. Climbers should be confident with belaying and knots.


Monday, June 24

9am Gear Anchors Clinic 4hrs ($125/person)

Learn to build solid anchors using traditional gear. Some previous trad experience recommended.

1pm Trad Mentoring Session 4hrs ($150/person)

Work on trad skills and get feedback and tips placing gear, working on short routes and building anchors. Climbers should have previous trad climbing experience.


All prices include tax and any required equipment. There is a small additional fee to enter the park at Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area.
